Story

The Ben Gurion Affair took place between the years of 1954 and 1965, and became the grandest political debacle in the history of the young State of Israel. The leader of an Israeli spying network based in Egypt became a double agent and gave away all of the network members. "The Ben Gurion Affair" reshaped the Israeli political arena and for several years was a priority on the public agenda. The Israeli citizens, who were exposed, for the first time, to the internal political battles and intrigues, became disillusioned and suspecting. The worshiped and admired Ben Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister, became the first mythical image of the new age to have been crushed.

The Ben Gurion Affair has all the necessary dramatic ingredients: an Israeli spying network based in Egypt, directed towards internal terrorism, and caught by the Egyptian authorities. Among the spies were a high ranking officer of the Israeli Military, the Head of the Israeli Military Intelligence Department (IMID), Binyamin Jibly, who falsified documents and coerced witnesses into perjury. There were also the tragic heroes, Pinchas Lavon and David Ben Gurion, who dragged each other into a finger-pointing war, which eventually took its harsh toll on both and showed the end of both their public lives. There was also the unprecedented media battle, once highly classified information is leaked to the media, waging a war over public opinion, for the first time in Israeli history. And of course, there is also a secret love story, between the Prime Minister to be, Levy Eshkol, and the Head of the IMID's personal assistant, who explains to her lover, while in the bedroom, how she had falsified documentation submitted to the investigation committee.
